Robbie Burns & Vicki Simpson won the RS 200 Scottish Champs from James Stewart & Toby Lewis with Paul Childs crewed by Susie Moore in 3rd.
The day started with lovely 15 - 20 knots but just as the first boats began to launch things got nasty & quite soon it was clear winds were building above 35 knots & boats were sent back to shore.
Two hours later the wind moderated & the fleet raced in near perfect 15 - 20 knots.
Those who competed yesterday were included in the Scottish Champs todays races saw the culmination of the Scottish Champs whilst also being the start of the UK Nationals too.

East Lothian Yacht Club are the hosts of the 2010 UK National Championships & Scottish Champs.
Big gusts reaching over 30 knots made the first day of the Scottish Champs very exciting for the 33 boats who flew to the start area.
Usually the Saturday before the UK Nationals is reserved as a practice day but this year the practice day included two races as part of the Scottish Champs.
Race one was sailed in 25 knots with a max gust of 33 recorded ! James Stewart & Toby - tastic showed they are still the heavy weather experts to win from Chris Martin & Katherine Lovering at the last gybe with the Scottish Masters Robbie Burns & Vicki Simpson in 3rd.
The wind moderated for race two dropping to 8 knots at times with gusts still up to 20 knots.
Burns & Simpson lead from start to finish whilst Stewart & Lewis pulled through to take 2nd from Tom Morris & Emma Porteous. |

38 Cadets took part in the ELYC Cadet regatta over the weekend of 14th and 15th August. It was great to see that together with some of the more experienced cadets, many of the participants taking part had undertaken training this year including those from both the Summer School and the Bass Rock Bandits.
There was a briefing and on water coaching from Michael Gorzowski, RYA Scotland Volvo Champion Club Coach who helped out all weekend.
Saturday’s start was delayed due to surf in the fairway, which meant waiting for the tide to fill in a little but close racing took part across both Topper and Handicap Fleets. After the 2 Races on Saturday, Calum Finlayson, Lewis Grant and Andrew Scott led the Topper Fleet after, while the Lasers of Chris Scott, Ewan Rycroft and Sarah Alexander led the Handicap Fleet.
On Sunday the swell had died down, but racing had to be abandoned during the second race as the weather gods where against us and sent in the Haar. After everyone was safely back on shore there was a prize giving.
Many thanks to all that helped out at the weekend especially Ben and Alex acting as race Officers, the rescue boat crews, Jane C-M and Lucy Gibbons for organising the event. We hope to see the cadets continue their successful weekend and take part in club racing.

Race 8 was the final race sailed. Due to shifty and dropping wind conditions Race 9 was timed out. Wind strength was Force 2 -3, Race 8 was started but then had to be canned due to changing wind shifts. The race was restarted and completed in shifty wind, making the Race Officers task a difficult one on the last day of the Championship.
The Championship was concluded with an excellent buffet at ELYC in a specially erected Marquee adjacent to the Club House, prepared by Andrias and the galley team, who had prepared excellent food throughout the week, much appreciated by competitors, families and support team. Nick Craig thanked ELYC Race Secretary Niall Campbell-Morrison, Race Officer and team, Commodore Hugh Marston and Commodore’s wife Phillipa Marston for presenting the prizes and last but by no means least the Bar Team. The efficient Beach master with his cadets had trolleys ready as the competitors came ashore, matching up tallies with sail numbers – welcomed assistance for competitors.
This was an excellent, well organised event which the Enterprise Association would like to recommend to any class looking for a venue. Final thanks must go to our sponsors Noble Marine Insurance, whose continued support is very much appreciated by the Enterprise Association |
