EAST LOTHIAN YACHT CLUB TRAINING ACTIVITIES: JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

There are some things that you need to bring with you, and you need to know a little about the club and its surrounding area.

Food and hot drinks

The club café is only open on Saturdays, so if you are coming on an activity outwith this time, you need to bring a packed lunch, and drinks. The Seabird Centre can sell you hot and cold drinks, but it may be worth bringing a hot drink with you to be on the safe side.

Parking locally

The parking next to the clubhouse is very limited, so you may need to park in the surrounding areas. There is parking on the promenade, and in public car parks in the centre of North Berwick.

Sailing Equipment

You will get wet during the sessions dinghies are launched off the beach and help is needed with launching and recovering rescue boats.

ELYC can provide helmets and buoyancy aids. Helmets will be worn at the discretion of the senior instructor.

If you would like to use a club buoyancy aid please indicate this on your application form.

Sensible To Bring

· Socks, gloves, hat (woolly pull on if cold or peaked cap if sunny) although you will be wearing a helmet when required.

· Towel for after the session, change of clothes and footwear

· It is best to wear swimwear under a wetsuit and a windproof layer on top

· Sun protection is also a good idea as the sun’s rays are reflected by the water and the sails and the effects of the sun are more noticeable. A water bottle is also essential as you will dehydrate more quickly when you are on the water.

If you provide your own buoyancy aid it has to be a min of 50 newtons, comply with EC standards and fit you well.
