From: "Marston, H. (Hugh)" To: Subject: [Memberslist] Saturday Sailing Clinic Date: 11 April 2008 14:02 Dear All, This Saturday we are starting, in a quiet way, a new training opportunity. The Sailing Clinic is intended to help intermediate sailors who have obtained their RYA level 2 or equivalent refine and develop their skills and confidence. Where possible there will somewhat of a bias towards helping bridge between recreational sailing and participation in our main racing programme. As such the initiative may also help experienced sailors team with less experienced Club members for Saturday racing. It is intended that for the first half of the season that two instructors plus a safety boat cox will on duty, as a minimum, from 10:00 through to 12:30. The instructors will be responsible for assessing the conditions, boats available and the needs and desires of the those turning up wishing to participate and hence decide upon the morning's training activities. It is hoped that a significant subset of the morning's participants will then go onto take part in the afternoon racing under the guidance of the duty instructor. This would either be alone, together with another participant, helming with an instructor as crew or crewing with an instructor as helm. We would also be very pleased if experienced helms were to make themselves available either during the morning to help support the training staff, or to act as helms or crew for the afternoon racing either in their own or the club's boats. The reason for the quiet start is that we wish this to evolve to suit peoples needs rather than be overly prescriptive. Therefore we need to assess the level and type of interest, the availability of training staff and how the pattern of boat use works out. In this way we hope not to get swamped at our first attempt. If however demand outstrips resource we may need to instigate a booking system for participants. So please turn up if you would like to take advantage of this initiative, and keep an eye on the website and e-mails as I will up date things as we go on. Best regards, Hugh Vice commodore ELYC
