- Tommy:
single handedly manoevring RIBs right in & out of the stores is bad practice – it's too easy to drag the RIB against side of entrance. You think you are clear but actually are dragging with considerable force on the side. Going in, use Tommy to go up the ramp into the store and stop with the trailer wheels just above the ramp. The jockey wheel is way outside, but you can pick that up and manhandle the RIB in. Coming out is the reverse, you can manhandle the RIB till the wheels are just above the ramp & the jockey wheel is way outside, then hitch up to Tommy.
- Outboard motor maintenance:
Just don't do it. Nobody should even take the motor cover off unless under specific guidance of one of the rescue officers or flag officers, or someone authorised by them.
- Leaving RIBs at moorings:
Preferably don't do it! But if there is good reason to do so
- make sure RIB is moored from the mooring eye/U bolt located on the OUTSIDE of the rigid hull.
(ie. so that the mooring line has a direct pull from the eye without rubbing on the sponsons)
- the motor MUST BE FULLY RAISED (ie. it should NEVER be left down)!!

| GRUMPY OLD MAN : TOMMY |

Hi this is Tommy, if you've been down to the club when there's club sailing on you will have seen me launching & recovering club RIBs. I like what I do, but do get a bit upset at the way some folk treat me!
- Did you know that I have a handbrake? If you find that hill starts are very easy and I always stay exactly where you've stopped me, that's probably because the handbrake is still on. I do like it to be released before moving off!
- I don't like getting wet, I don't even like getting my feet wet. The salt water sprays up all round my sensitive parts and I get very sore.
- This is a complaint relayed from Russell, Ajax, Valiant & Bride : I make it very easy for you to take the RIBs in & out of the stores, but I'm so strong that even if the RIB is scraping hard against either side of the entrance I can still force the RIB in or out. Unfortunately this is very painful for the RIBs. It's much better to use me to take the RIB up or down the ramp into the store, and then manhandle the RIB within the store. Much more subtle and so much more satisfying.
Well that's about it for now.
TOMMY
