ELYC SAIL TRAINING 2006

toppers ready to go
This is a very exciting year for the training team at ELYC. Thanks to a variety of funding sources we now have a very exciting training fleet. We will continue to use Toppers as our main cadet boat for learning and racing and we can now offer Lasers with 4.7, radial and standard rigs. For double handed skills we will have the choice of five Laser 2000s and as an introduction to multi hulls and trapezing we have a Dart 16.

The team
We have a strong team of volunteers with a diverse range of skills and we offer a range of dinghy and powerboat qualifications through the RYA.

The team currently delivers
  • Learn to sail programmes up to RYA stage three for cadets and level two for adults;
  • A junior racing programme which introduces and develops racing skills to those who have developed competence through ELYC training or elsewhere;
  • Fun Fridays – informal sessions where individuals can develop personal skills and gain time on the water in own boat or a club boat under supervision of rescue cover and with instruction/coaching on request;
  • ELYC’s four powerboat instructors and powerboat coach also offer RYA level 2 and safety boat qualifications.

In addition to this programme the training team will be undertaking development activities. There is an Assistant Instructor course planned for those who have helped with sail training and wish to start a route to formalising their experience with a qualification. The team will be doing a club racing coach course and will be getting up to scratch on how to teach advanced techniques such as sailing with spinnakers and trapezing. There will also be powerboat courses on offer throughout the year - details of these and other activities will be publicised in the Notisboard section of the website as we go through the season.
