Bill is a past Hon Treasurer of the Club and long-time regular member of the Buffties’ corner on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons in the Clubhouse.
He started sailing his beloved Westerly Warick, Sandpebble, in 1984/85 to replace a Seafarer. Sandpebble is again moored in the harbour and, although now under new management, Bill visits the harbour everyday to check on her.
Sandpebble was raced in the early days but as time passed Bill’s preferred wind condition became “1knt gusting 2knt”. Over the years he became an expert consultant – every day he would consult the weather from his front door in Victoria Road and decide if he would go sailing.
To mark the occasion of Bill’s 100th birthday (9thJuly) a card and congratulations have been sent on behalf of the Club.
The Committee are also pleased to announce a proposal to offer Bill Honorary Membership in recognition of his service and years of membership.
