A fantastic fun introduction to sailing for 8 - 11 years old. I We are sorry we really cannot take anyone younger than this. Those taking the course must either be child memberrs or a child cadet member and must be competent and confident in the water.
The little sailors will have a summer of sailing with the aim of having good safe fun and getting more confident on the water.
These short sessions build confidence and ability to make it much easier for the Bandits to progress further in with the learn to sail and other club activities, we really want them stay in the sport for as long as possible and enjoy it as much as we do.
It should be noted that the weather can provide some challenging conditions on occasion, which means that the Instructors will try to run a short shore-based session, before finishing the session early. With this age group we need to be careful that their interest is maintained and that they are kept as warm and as safe as possible.
Please ensure your child is properly equipped with warm clothing and an appropriately sized wetsuit, with full length arms and legs. Ideally with their own buoyancy aid too, as the club has a limited supply of very small buoyancy aids. Please also ensure that they bring a warm dry change of clothes for after the session as they may well get wet!
This activity will be running on Sunday mornings, in May and June the dates are below:
May 10th, 17th, 23rd and 31st
June 14th, and 21st
N.B. There will be no session on 7th June, as the ELYC Regatta takes place on this weekend
Sessions will start at 1030hrs and finish at 1230hrs.
Places are limited to 8 children.
The cost for the whole course is £65.
Participants should be confident in the water and be able to swim 50m in light clothing.
